Kinja'd!!!

So I’m about to hit 2,000 miles in my 2016 Wrangler, and there have been a few issues so far.

- The unlock button on the key will only work if you hit it about 4 times, even within close proximity.
- Every now and then, the power windows will not work upon starting the car. It merely requires me to restart the car for it to fix itself.
- Every other day the reverse gear engages, and as soon as I hit the throttle, it falls out of gear.
- Uconnect and my iPhone do not get along...I’d say I have a 50% success rate of them connecting.

And I’ve already chipped the windshield!

Kinja'd!!!

Special thanks to the state of Colorado, who uses gravel/sand instead of salt.

Have you taken the doors off at all?

Doors have never been taken off, so I haven’t worn down those wires or whatever quite yet.

You may be able to fix the key just by replacing the battery. The one in there sat unused in the key between the car’s build date and when you purchased it.

Check the wiring harness leading into the door, there could be some dumb issue there especially if it’s designed to be disconnected when you remove the doors.

Uconnect...lol.

Take it to the dealer for the transmission issue, you have a warranty for a reason.

Welcome to FCA, where reliability comes second or third behind cool figures and sales numbers.

Really sorry about this. But you still own an amazing truck, even if it was assembled by blind monkeys.

Since I have owned my car about the same length of time I was really tempted to just write “should have bought an 8-year old BMW, way more reliable”.

As a Wisconsin resident, I'd take the sand and gravel over my cars rusting out in a few years from salt.

If you take them off and leave it that way you won’t have to deal with the window problems anymore.

Take it to the dealership with a list of these issues. You bought a new car to enjoy your warranty not break your head trying to figure out why this and that don’t work.

Welcome to FCA ownership. You only do it once , then you plan buy a 30 year old German sedan that’s far better quality ASAP . If you want new and offroad capable I recommend a Taco or Colorado.

I was actually thinking about that on my way to work the other day. I was driving on 43 through downtown Milwaukee in 12 degrees and the road was damp. Had they not salted the piss out of it, it would have been slick and my commute would have blown. As is, I was doing 65 without a care in the world.

Full disclosure: There is a relatively cheap car wash by my office and I hit it up at least once a month just for the underbody flush.

Seems like a warranty claim to me, but since the problems are intermittent, the dealer may just hit you with the “unable to replicate” shtick. Maybe try to film your issues in order to start building a lemon law claim as a last resort.

Disclaimer: I’m not a lawyer nor have I ever put in a lemon law claim, so idk.

I always cringe when it’s below zero and I’m driving around Minneapolis on wet roads. But that’s what winter beaters are for.

From my conversation with the Safelite tech, you’re going to want to make sure windshields are covered in your insurance (your state may already require this, mine does not).

He said they replace at least one JK windshield a day (but that they love to work on them because they’re easy to remove). I’ve replaced mine once, and two weeks later it got another chip in it. From what I’ve read, it is largely because the windshield is about as close to vertical as modern windshields get, and they don’t deflect anything. They just catch rocks. I like to exclaim “MOTHERF#*&ER” every time I hear a rock hit my windshield before trying to determine where it hit and if it chipped it.

Regarding the other issues, I haven’t had any of those but mine is manual locks/windows and an auto.

Please take it to the dealer and get everything covered under warranty. FCA won’t know about the issues and be able to improve on their quality if it’s not reported to / by the dealer.

I’m happy about the whole rust thing, however I can’t say the same about it feeling like I’m driving through a hailstorm on freshly-graveled mountain passes.

I doubt the key has to do with sitting for long after being built...I custom ordered the thing and drove it off the lot 10 days after rolling off the assembly line.

Checked the doors...all is well there. I think the transmission may actually have to do with the leather shift bag being too loose. I’m gonna look in on it this weekend. Otherwise, stealership it is!

Indeed. Well, even if it isn’t the simple dumb things, it’s always cheaper to check the simple dumb things first.
